Can Testosterone Deficiency Lead to ED?

Testosterone deficiency can lead to the erectile dysfunction (ED). Previous studies had said that inadequate production of testosterone is not a common cause of erectile Dysfunction, but the latest studies had proved that deficiency of testosterone can lead to erectile dysfunction.

Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group. Testosterone is produced by the testicles and is responsible for the proper development of male sexual characteristics. Testosterone is also important for maintaining muscle bulk, adequate levels of red blood cells, bone growth, and sense of well-being and sexual function. Hence, testosterone plays a very important role in developing the overall male body.

Testosterone Deficiency is caused by following reasons:

  1. Age is one of the major factors for the decline in the level of testosterone. After the age of 30 the decline in level of testosterone starts and then it continues for throughout the life.
  2. Genetic abnormalities such as Klinefelter Syndrome (extra X chromosome).
  3. Chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer.
  4. Hemochromatosis (too much iron in the body).
  5. Injury, infection, or loss of the testicles.

Testosterone levels in the body are responsible for the Erection dysfunction. Lower levels of testosterone causes the erectile dysfunction. When the levels of testosterone are low man doesn’t get sexual aroused due to which he is not able to get the proper erection. Low level of testosterone leads to the Hypogonadism.

Because of Hypogonadism lots of energy is lost from the body. So because of the energy loss your stamina is reduced and you become prone to the erectile dysfunction. Testosterone deficiency makes you the patient Dysthymia because of which you lose your self-esteem and confidence due to which you do not get the proper erection and suffer from erectile dysfunction.

To prove that erectile dysfunction is caused by the erectile dysfunction the study was conducted by group of researchers in which 100 men suffering from the testosterone deficiency were examined. Questions were asked to every patient’s regarding their sexual life. The study revealed that 90 men were having the problems in their sex life. Out of this 90 men, 72 men showed the problems related to erection. Then these men with the erectile dysfunction were given the treatment for increasing the level of testosterone. Improvement was observed in the 80% of the men.

Finally, it is clear that testosterone deficiency can lead to erectile dysfunction in majority of cases.
